To the nomadic peoples, their herds were a precious and dearly held resource, and at the same time something akin to a part of the family. To find them dead in this blood-strewn field...the reality of it was enough to leave the entire family at a loss as we sat together in our small yurt.
I had stood there, staring in blank horror. At the goats, with only their skulls cracked, brains missing. At the sheep, with only their eyes gouged away. At the horses, with only their hooves scraped off. I felt deeply that the overpowering shock and terror was all there was to me, in that moment.
Even as I tried to convince myself that the animals' horrible wounds might have been the result of a ferocious beast, tossing them about as it gorged itself, I realized with a sinking feeling that I could no longer hear the quiet sobbing of my family behind me. Uneasy, I turned to look.
Even as I did I realized that I'd been run through by a viciously long claw, belonging to a tiger-like aberration. I remember, in that moment, that when faced with certain death, people may hallucinate as their only means to escape that reality. What a thing to have experienced.More Sleeping Beauty Jobs[]
