There once was an old man. He shaved the wood, smoothed it, fashioned it into limbs, clothed it... And a puppet was born. Unable to have a child of his own, the old man wished for it to become a real boy.
He made a wish to the fairy of the stars. He didn't expect anything to come of it, but the fairy heard his wish and gave the puppet life.
Why did the fairy grant his wish? Did she do it on a whim or as part of some kind of revelation? The old man had no way of knowing. He was simply grateful that his puppet had been given life.
The fairy looked down at the simple-minded, selfish puppet who continued to tell vulgar jokes in front of the good-natured old man. She had no idea that behind the puppet's eyes was a hollow of darkness...

一人の老人がいた。老人は木を削り、ヤスリをかけ、関節を作り、服を着せ、一体の操り人形を作りだした。それは子どもを持つ事が叶わなかった、老いた人間の希望の形だった。
老人は願った。星々瞬く夜の空へと己が望みを囁いた。それはほんの戯れに過ぎない行為だったが、星の女神は聞き届けた。そうして一体の人形は仮初の命を与えられた。
何故、女神は願いを聞き届けたのか？それは神の気紛れか、あるいは何らかの啓示なのか。しかし老人には知る由もない。ただ木の人形に与えられた命に感謝し、正しくあれと願うだけ。
星の女神は空から見下ろす。善なれと願う老人の前で悪戯を繰り返す、無邪気で我がままな人形を。だが、女神は気づかない。人形の目の光が、虚ろな闇で満たされている事を……More Pinocchio Jobs[]
