"Monstrous Yearning"

Intro Scene[]

Parrah:
Since you're such a notorious nightmare hunter, we've got a job that's right up your alley!

Noya:
We've got a monster on the prowl that needs eradicating at a certain village.

Parrah:
Apparently the poor villagers are helpless against its ceaseless onslaught.

Noya:
For the moment, they've somehow managed to keep anyone from dying at least.

Parrah:
They must have too much money on their hands to make such a half-hearted request.

Noya:
You'll get a huge commission out of this one. If you were waiting on a big reward, this is your chance!

Parrah:
Now then, take care of the request and reap those twilight crystals!

Verse 1[]

Located along the border was a village
well-known for the "pottery" they
they crafted with red clay from the
mountains.

The villagers were few in number.
Though most
worked in the fields, the high demand for
their pottery allowed the village
to elude poverty.

The one day a "monster" began
attack the 'quiet' village.

The fiend ravaged the few crops they had,
infiltrated the village, and attacked
anyone and everyone in sight.

Male Villager 1:
That monster keeps destroying things.

Village Elder:
And the wounded are piling up.

Male Villager 2:
If we don't stop it, sooner or later people will be killed!

Verse 2[]

Fearing the beast, the villagers joined forces
to set "traps" at the entrance
and in the mountains where it lived.

These traps were 'sturdy' clamps
meant to snag bears in place
until the lock was released.

However, the monster was smart
and moved with caution.
It avoided hunting in areas littered
in traps, and stayed away from
"poisoned" watering holes.

But despite the monster's best efforts,
it wad finally caught in a trap.

Male Villager 1:
We got it! We caught the monster!

Village Elder:
Everyone! Ready your swords!

Male Villager 2:
We'll stab it to death!

Verse 3[]

In a frenzied rage,
the villagers stabbed their "swords"
into the captured creature.

...But the monster did not die.
Its 'life force' was so strong
that the villagers' attacks
failed to land a killing blow.

Wounded, it disarmed the traps on
its own and "retreated" from the scene.

Just a few days later, the monster
had 'fully recovered', and
attacked again.

Male Villager 1:
I-it can't be...!

Village Elder:
We can't take it on our own!

Male Villager 2:
Somebody, kill that monster...!

Verse 4[]

The villagers explained that this assault
had forced them to call on the Nightmare Hunters.

"I see. I get what happened now."
"A monster that just won't die is a 'burden' indeed."
"It sure must be strong."
"Not to mention clever, which is more annoying."

"But why did the monster "attack" the village out of the blue like that?"
the puppets asked casually.

The villagers grew silent
when it came for them to respond.

"Well? Are you gonna tell us?"
"Something tells me they "have and idea" what the reason is."

Male Villager 1:
Not long after that incident is when the monster appeared...

Male Villager 2:
If it turns out to be who we think it is, their resentment towards us runs deep.

Parrah:
You know who the monster is?

Village Elder:
Yes... That monster is... the village chief's son...

Verse 5[]

It was a tale of a time just before the
monster's appearance.
The village was governed by an elder chief
and his son.

The chief's son was...
'trusted' and acknowledged
for his hard work by his peers.

If 'peace' in the village had only continued,
he would have carried on as the next chief.

However, the village's location would be its detriment.

One day, the "army" of a neighboring country approached.

Male Villager 1:
What's a foreigner doing here?

Village Elder:
Have you come to burn down our village?

Male Villager 2:
GAAAAAH!!!

Verse 6[]

The villagers panicked.
One soldier stepped forward.
"Starting today, this village will be "annexed" to our country."
"As such, an army will be stationed at the edge of the village."
"You will obey us."

And just like that, the village
had "lost its autonomy".
Apparently the village was
the perfect spot for a military
garrison and supply point.

The neighboring country then sent an envoy
to maintain security and development.

Envoy:
Don't be alarmed.
I intend to serve this village's best interests.
But, I won't force you to comply.

Verse 7[]

The envoy was a 'talented' mediator
who devised various methods to develop
the village.

However, his suggestions for the most part
"ignored" the old traditions
the villagers had kept alive...

This eventually divided the village into two.
The "village chief faction," who believed in tradition,
and the "envoy faction," who were open to
furthering the village's prosperity.

But when beliefs became their identity,
resulting in frequent clashes, fears grew that
one day squabbling would turn to bloodshed.

However, neither the chief nor the envoy
'wished' that on anyone.

Hound:
GRRRRR!

Envoy's Daughter:
NO! Somebody help!

Village Chief's Son:
It's not safe! Come, this way!

Envoy's Daughter:
huff huff Thank you for saving me.

Village Chief's Son:
You gotta be cautious on the mountain. It's home to beasts.
...Huh? Aren't you...

Envoy's Daughter:
Yes... I'm the envoy's daughter.

Verse 8[]

I am the village chief's son.
Within the chaos and a bleak future...

I 'fell in love' with the envoy's only daughter.

We were both concerned for the village.
How could we be so divided when
we all want 'the best' for this place?

We tried to keep our meetings secret,
but only so much can be hidden here.
Before long, our liaisons were discovered.
As expected, it met fierce opposition from
both factions.

They argued our "relationship" was wrong
and couldn't understand why we'd choose each other.

Village Chief's Son:
We'll never be happy if we remain in this village.
Please. Let's run away from here, together.

Envoy's Daughter:
But...

Village Chief's Son:
Please. I want to make you happy.

Envoy's Daughter:
...
......

...I'm sorry.

Verse 9[]

My love cried, begging for
"forgiveness".

"I want to go with you, really. But this village needs me."
The envoy's daughter cared about the village
just as much as the others.

And then it suddenly "ended".

I found her lying in a pool of blood
in the shack where we'd always meet.
Protruding from her stomach was a
"sickle",

the kind often used by the villagers.
"...Who did this?! Tell me!"
"...I don't know. I didn't... see their face..."

Village Chief's Son:
No... No! Don't die one me!

Envoy's Daughter:
...Listen ...to me.

Village Chief's Son:
What...? What is it?!

Envoy's Daughter:
I have... one request...

Village Chief's Son:
Of course! Anything!

Envoy's Daughter:
......
......

Village Chief's Son:
No...!
GRAAAAAAAAARRRR!!!

Verse 10[]

That drove me to become a "monster".

Whether it was the village chief faction
or the envoy faction,
I didn't know nor did I care at this point.

Everyone would die for her "death".

Both sides stood "in the way"
of our relationship.
That's when I vowed...
I wouldn't let death be in vain.

I'll keep "living" and make the
villagers pay for their actions.

Monster:
I refuse... to die...

Parrah:
This fella's really puttin' up a fight.

Monster:
I will... not die here...

Noya:
I wouldn't be too sure about that.

Parrah:
You didn't actually think we'd spare you.

Monster:
I will not... DIE!!!

Noya:
Finish it!

Bet before she died, she said to me,
"I just want... the village...
to get along..."

Even as she took her last breath,
she yearned for peace in the village.

And so I became a monster.

If a monster threatened the village
both factions would have no choice
but to join forces to stop it.

To fulfill her final wish,
this what I must do.
I can't let myself die...

Ending Scene[]

Parrah:
That monster sure was tough.

Noya:
It took longer than expected.

Parrah:
...Huh? What came of the village afterwards?

Noya:
Why should you care?

Parrah:
But if you really wanna know...
After you defeated the monster, disharmony among the two factions flared up again.

Noya:
The village became a bloodbath, and when the army got involved, they were all wiped out in less than a year.

Parrah:
Good thing we got paid before that.

Noya:
Tell me about it.

Parrah:
Welp, mission accomplished.

Parrah & Noya:
All's well that ends well.
