This tale is one that ends with a foolish man, and serves as a warning to clever children. Tell every little one near and far, warn them, that they might never wander away from the paths trod by their fellow humans. My hometown once paid the price for such a mistake.
A man, exhausted from plowing the drought-ridden earth of his fields, offered a prayer to god, begging the divinity to save his village, to give them water for their crops. Taking pity on them, the deity let a blessed rain fall.
A certain spirit, seeing this, whispered to the man, suggesting that he pray instead to live a life without toil. The man did as the spirit suggested and not just water, but food, began to rain from the heavens.
The rains continued unceasing, until the lands were flooded and washed out, and the food that had fallen with the water began to rot. Soon the man and his village were driven from their homes by the blight.
